What To Do in Anaheim Other Than Disneyland

Mention Anaheim and the first thing that comes to mind is Disneyland- the happy magical land that is the lifelong dream of children everywhere and a surprisingly large number of adults. But if you’ve gotten over your love of Mickey, there is no reason to loathe a trip to Anaheim. Though the Disneyland Resort might be the city’s star attraction, other experiences abound. From golf, sports, luxury shopping, beaches, breweries, museums, galleries, and a developing food scene, there is something for everyone. You’d be surprised to know that a large number of business travelers visit Anaheim and stay at IHG hotels near Anaheim Convention Center to attend events and conferences there.

If you find yourself in Anaheim and a subtle disdain for Mickey, don’t worry. We’ve got you covered with this list of interesting things to do in Anaheim other than Disneyland.

Get Your Nature Fix

There’s nothing like a good hike to brighten up your day, so head to the Oak Canyon Nature Center, a beautiful park spread over 58-acres. A four-mile long hiking trail flanked by oak trees takes you along a stream and canyons that are home to native bird species.

Catch a Game at the Angels Stadium

Home to the LA Angels, the iconic Angels Stadium has played host to many Major League Baseball All-Star games. Even if you’re not a big baseball fan, it’s worth watching a game here for a taste of the palpable atmosphere.

Visit a Brewery

Beer lovers may not need another reason to Anaheim because the city is home to quite a few craft breweries that visitors can drink their way around. From the casual Anaheim Brewery that you can visit with the entire family to enjoy community events (and the tacos if you go on Taco Tuesdays) to Noble Ale Works, where you’ll find yourself in the company of the city’s sports lovers and Phantom Ales where you can drink homemade brews and dine English pub style, the city’s breweries alone can keep you in high spirits for days. It’s worth checking the tours on offer before you go.

Eat Your Way Around

Begin the culinary adventure at the historical market hall Anaheim Packing House in Downtown Anaheim where you can sample delicious fare from a variety of cuisines, prepared by small businesses owners from the local community. Built in 1919, this is where local farmers would clean, grade, and pack fresh citrus produce to be transported to the rest of the country via rail, hence the name ‘Orange County’.

Spread over two floors, today the food hall is a great place to experience communal dining and market style meals. You might also be in luck to catch a live music performance, cooking or gardening class, or cocktails demonstration.

While you’re in the area, head to Center Street Promenade, historically, the heart of commercial activity in Anaheim that is now home to outdoor cafés, artisan stores, street fairs, interactive shows and performances, and a Farmers Market. Take your time as you eat your way around; from Mexican food and artisanal cheeses, to healthy vegan fare, this isn’t your average foodie tour.

Enjoy the Live Music

If you’re a live music fan, then Anaheim certainly has a host of entertainment and nightlife options for you that don’t involve Disney characters. Head to the City National Grove of Anaheim for acts by international artists and bands in a range of genres from Heavy Metal, Pop, and R&B to American Folk. If you like alternative music, then head to the Observatory OC, the champion of live indie-music in the city.

Be a Beach Bum

You can’t be in Orange County and not partake in the pleasures of a beach lifestyle. Take your pick from among Laguna Beach, San Clemente, Newport Beach and others to spend a relaxed day of working on your tan, surfing, kayaking, stand up paddle boarding, and other beach activities. In summer, the beach towns also host various festivals such as the Sawdust Art Festival and this makes for a great time to experience the lively and fun vibe.

With many alternatives to theme parks, indoor adventure activities suitable for the whole family, exciting dining options, and exclusive shopping venues, Anaheim makes for a great weekend getaway for the mid-range and luxury traveler.
