Picture this: you’ve been travelling across Thailand for a few weeks, going from one market to another in Bangkok, taken a 16 hour train journey from Bangkok to Chiang Mai. Then, walking/cycling all over the cultural treat that is Chiang Mai, you’ve probably seen more Wats than you can count anymore. Day after day you’ve enjoyed the street food, irresistible curries, pad thais and sticky rice dishes along your way. Then suddenly out of the blue, on a hot sunny afternoon (or a breezy evening if you may), you have a chocolate cake craving. So what can you do? Well, you can head onto Th Ratchadamnoen and walk on straight towards Wat Phra Sing. Instead of crossing the last road to get to the temple, turn left at the corner and walk onto Th Samlan. In about 150 meters you will see a cosy café with a garden area, right next door to Chiang Mai Mountain Biking. This café does a sinful homemade chocolate cake. It has the most heavenly texture with the chocolate frosting just right and not sugary. Finish up with an equally divine Iced Green Tea (with milk). I can almost guarantee a second visit to this place!
If you’re one of those strange folks who don’t like chocolate cake, or you’re just in the Th. Ratchadamnoen/ Sunday walking Street area, I strongly recommend the Green Tea Cake at Waawee Coffee. I never heard of a Green Tea Cake before and I was pleasantly surprised at how wonderful, fluffy and light it tasted.
Looking for places to eat out in Chiang Mai? Here are my Top 5!
