Why should kids have all the fun? There’s no shame in being a thrill seeking full-grown adult who gets excited by the thought of following in the footsteps of Frodo, meeting jolly ol’ Mickey, riding onboard the Hogwarts Express or shooting off on the world’s fastest rollercoaster. No matter what tickles your fancy, these theme parks located across the globe from the U.S. to New Zealand have plenty in store to bring out the bright-eyed bubbly child in you and ensure that you have as much of a fun time as the little ones around.
It’s hard to deny the appeal of Disney’s famous theme park that promises a memorable time to visitors of all age groups with such illustrious personalities as Mickey Mouse and his pals. Dance in the parade streets with your new big-eared friends or try to keep up with the exciting adventures of Peter Pan as he zips across fantastical lands in ‘Disney Dreams’. Sail across the dangerous high seas like the Pirates of the Caribbean and encounter sites such as the haunted realm of the Pirates Grotto. When night falls, find a cozy spot in Sleeping Beauty’s ornate, blue roofed castle and drift away into the land of dreams. In Disneyland, all’s well with the world and that’s a great feeling to have as an adult!
Universal Studios, Florida
Ever wished you could wander through Diagon Alley like Harry Potter or fight next to Optimus Prime? Hardcore movie and T.V. fans should not think twice before buying tickets for Universal Studios in Florida for the ultimate life like movie experience. Jump onto a thrilling ride on the Revenge of the Mummy rollercoaster as you duel with warrior mummies and try to save your soul from being captured for all eternity. Join Shrek and Donkey in their adventures as they ride through a wild forest and catapult over gushing waterfalls on the back of a fire-breathing dragon. Saving the world is serious stuff- it’s no surprise that the park is incredibly popular with adults!
Though not a theme park per se, the Hobbiton Movie Set from The Lord Of The Rings and The Hobbit trilogies in the North Island of New Zealand is definitely worth visiting. The incredibly picturesque farmland and shooting locations bring to life Tolkien’s extraordinary tale and appeals to fans of all ages. On one of the tours, drive through lush Waikato farmland and a 1250-acre sheep farm with a fantastic view of the Kaimai Ranges. Like the residents of Hobbiton, stop for a rest and a meal at The Green Dragon Inn and exchange stories about the happenings at The Shire.
Ferrari World, Abu Dhabi
Few places are as exciting for hardcore thrill seekers as the F1 themed Ferrari World in Abu Dhabi. Expect many hair-raising, nerve-wrecking moments as you take the wheel to challenge the best lap times at Scuderia Challenge, a state-of-the-art racing simulation, reach speeds of 95km/h in a Ferrari F430 Spider coaster ride complete with steep hairpin turns and experience the fastest rollercoaster on the planet reaching acceleration of 240km/h in under 5 seconds as you’re launched 52 meters into the sky. If that’s a little too much adrenaline for your liking, choose to virtually soar over Italian mountains, villages, cities and vineyards as you enjoy the sights and sounds, drive shotgun with a racing pro in a motion-based simulator or take a tour of the legendary Ferrari factory.
Are you an adult that has been to any of these parks or would you like to go? I’d love to hear about it in the comments below.
